Paterson is in the heart of the Valley Bushveld region, which is unique to the Eastern Cape. The town lies at the foot of the Zuurberg Mountains on the Port Elizabeth - Cradock road (N10) and is the nearest town to the Shamwari Game Reserve. This biome is able to support more animals, birds and insects (per cubic meter) than any other biome on earth.
